Allergies and Running

I was asked about allergies and running today. I am going to assume because the question is being asked now that the allergies in question are to grass pollen. Check with your doctor about allergy medications. Also, try to run early in the morning when the pollen count is lower. Avoid running through fields during the time grass is in bloom - which has been the last couple of weeks. The good news is that the hot weather we are experiencing right now should speed up the blooming process. Since grass is wind pollinated windy days can be the worst. You will like this - do not, I repeat do not, mow the lawn. Exercising indoors such as a treadmill etc. or swimming can help. Shower after running - it will wash off pollen and make you a lot nicer to be around.

If you are wheezing or coughing see a doctor right away.
