Directions to Harry Lang Stadium - Lakes Meet

It is my understanding that Harry Lang Stadium is right next to Clover Park HS, so these directions are to Clover Park HS, but should get you to the stadium.

From I-5 north or south take exit #125 to McChord - Lakewood. From the north take a right - from the south take a left, and go over the freeway. You will be on Bridgeport Way. Continue on Bridgeport Way for for about half a mile to the second stoplight at 112th Street. Turn left on 112th and go four blocks to the light at Gravelly Lake Drive. Turn right onto Gravelly Lake Drive. Clover Park HS and the Stadium will be in the near vicinity.

Should be a great track meet and the weather is supposed to be nice. See you there!

Lakes Meet On Weds.

For the Boy's team: We are still in the hunt for the league title. Hopefully Yelm will bump off Shelton and we will win the rest of our duel meets. This would create a three way tie going into the league championships. Everyone is important to pull this off. I see potential for improvement throughout the team because of our youth and inexperience. Our ability to generate points should only improve. In the duel meets we will ask you to do just a bit more. When we go to invites we will allow you to focus more on your main event. For instance if your main event is shot put and you also pole vault, then your focus would be shot put. In a duel meet however, you might be expected to pole vault to pick up points. We should be undefeated, but did not go into the Shelton meet with this philosophy.
The Bremerton Relays was an exception to this rule. Because it was a relay we needed our best three or four performers in each event- even if you didn't consider yourself that good. For instance we might have two 6' high jumpers, but not a third jumper, so our total would have been 12' and a non - place. Add a 5' jumper and you have 17' and a first place.

Distance runners. Good work out on Saturday. It was a little wet and a tad windy, but we accomplished much and it will begin to show.

See you at practice!

Shelton Meet

Splendid job against Shelton. It was a big blow out for the girls and a two point loss for the guys. All of the coaches agreed that all of athletes competed to the best of their abilities for this early in the season. The boy's team really missed the athletes who were not able to participate for whatever reasons. We will be a much stronger team next week and even stronger as the weeks go by.

I have a ton of photos from Dan Saul to post as soon as I have some time, and I will also have splits for the distance athletes.

Joe Does It Again!

Joe received a very favorable mention in the Olympian today. Way to go big guy!

Things to know or remember before your first meet.

Excellent workout today. Check the blog for March 2006 for a run down on meet preparation and things to do and know.

If you are a distance runner you will be expected to do two events, unless you are racing the 3200. For example: 1600 - 800 or 1600 - 4x4 or 800- 4x4 Be thinking about what you would like to do for our meeting tomorrow.

Be Thinking

Thinking is a good idea. Especially if you are thinking about what events you are going to be doing on Weds. at the track meet vs. Shelton at Shelton. We will need to know by Tuesday or sooner, so we can give them the info. to put in their computers. Remember: you must have ten workouts to compete. Also, due to the crowded conditions we expect on the buses, if you are not competing you will not be allowed on the bus. Also remember that duel meets count for the league title, so go after every point we can scrape up.

Distance Runners -YES!

Tonight's work out.

Yes, pulse is important!

Yes, doing more is better than doing fewer at a faster pace.

Yes, the 45 second rest is important!

Yes, get a cheap watch at Target or big 5.

Yes, I think I needed to explain this workout better.

Yes, we still need to do the warmup with more gusto.

Yes, having a straight 1000 was better than having to turn around.

Yes, I've lost some weight- Thank you for noticing.

Yes, you are awesome.

This season's time trial was a week earlier and done with hardly no speed work at all. Some of you ran faster than last year and some of you had times very close. Laura had exactly the same time! Your cooperation made things run smoothly. Thank you all, excellent!

New Practice Photos

Monday, March 05, 2007

I knew it would happen!

By officially telling you to wear warmer gear and that it was still winter I knew things would warm up. Here is a shot of our first warm practice featuring Aaron, Mrs. Coach Miller and Mike.

New vault coach Mark Fish

We have a new vault coach with loads of experience. He vaulted in high school and college clearing 16'6" - (17'3" in practice). He also coached a couple of years at a high scool back East and four years at New Hamshire State University. He and Coach Frazier will be working closely together to see that our vaulters are safe, have fun and are competitive.

Team XO Meet Hotel Reservations

We will be staying at The Best Western New Oregon Hotel, which I understand is very near the track at Hayward Field. The phone number there is 541-683-3669. There are still rooms available. For those of you just tuning in, the Team XO Meet will be taking the place of the Shelton Invite on your track schedule. This is a qualifier meet and will not include everyone. More info. to follow.

Cold enough to snow, but not.

The boys team will be meeting in the Mat room tomorrow to begin with because we don't have the gym until 3:15.
