Here are the details again on Kah Nee Ta.

We meet at my house (1016 Cardigan Loop NW) at 8:00 a.m.

At that time we will pack things up and determine who you are riding with.

If you want to buy snacks or pay extra for the waterslide, $4.00, you will need your own money.

Bring:

Air mattress, sleeping bag, compact folding chair, clothes, running gear, swim stuff, sun screen, games, toiletries - there is a very nice and clean shower area.

Temperatures should be over 100 degrees.

Dinner the first night will be pasta, bread, salad and fruit. The second night will be simple with hotdogs potato chips and fruit. Lunch on the first day will be on the way at subway (you pay) Lunch the second day will be peanut butter and jelly, milk and fruit. Breakfast will be pancakes, muffins and cereal. Fruit will be available at all times as well as gatorade and water. There will be smores at the campfire. All other snacks can be purchased at the store.

Eat light on the way to Kah Nee Ta, because you will be running as soon as we get there.

Thank You For Lakefair

For all of you helping out at the Lakefair Run today a big thank you! Your team tee shirt will be free this year because you earned it today.

A special thank you for parents that helped today. We are able to operate the program at the level we do, because you are willing to help.

I saw a lot of former athletes running the race today. Believe it or not, one I coached 25 years ago (Tom Matzelle, Phoenix)and another Eric Law (Madrid Spain) 16 years ago. It was fun to see Graydon Manning win and Chris McIsaac place high. I haven't looked at the results yet, so I don't know exactly where. Joe Uglick did quite well also.

Oh yes, and Susan Staiert (Johannah's Mom) defended her title in the women's 3K.

Kah Nee Ta - Last chance sign up

I believe we have 19 people going to Kah Nee Ta. There are three vans capable of carrying six people each for a total of 18. Add my vehicle and we have a capacity for 21. If you show up at my house on Weds. morning at 8:00 and your parents are not driving, you take the risk of not going. Check an earlier entry about who is going to Kah Nee Ta. If you are not mentioned, and want to attend, you need to call me or e mail me immediately, 709-0572 jlmiller@osd.wednet.edu

I need this information immediately, so that I might figure out rides and buy food.

Lakefair Run - Assignments and Info.

If you are not assigned a station show up at 7:00 at Heritage Park and we will put you to work.

Station 1 - Marathon Park A. Make sure 8k continues down Deschutes Parkway and does not turn into Marathon Park until returning. B. Make sure 3k turns into Marathon Park. C. Returning 8k runners should be directed to turn right into Marathon Park - make sure they don't cut the course at the railroad - they need to stay on the road. Place a monitor at the tracks and tell the runners to stay on the road to the park only.
Clean up: Pick up miles one and four signs and any orange cones in the park and return them to the finish. Adam, Jacob, Zach and Mr. Saul
Station 2 - Direct people left onto the Interpretive Trail and then right when they are exiting. Athletes need to keep the cones to their left entering the trail and exiting. Help pick up cones in the area and load tables etc. Nathan C
Water Stop- I'll leave tables, water, cups, and plastic garbage bags. The table will be set up to serve runners as they come and go. Please clean up cups and get tables ready for transport. Pour 100 cups on each table to be ahead of the rush. Jeff and David
Station 3 - Interpretive Trail - first bench - tell runners to keep orange cones to their left - coming and going. Don't be afraid to get in and direct traffic if they are not running on the correct side - especially during the crowded part of the race. This is crucial because we will be having collisions if we don't. Make sure you are directing verbally and by pointing. This is the part of the course I worry about the most. Max, Nick (Alfred) Ty
Station 4 -Interpretive trail second bench - same directions as station 3. Pick up cones and the mile marker in your area and return them to the finish. Stephen and Tim
Station 5 - Interpretive Trail at corner near the I-5 bridge - this is a blind corner- see directions for station 3. Pick up cones or mile markers in your area. Noah and Gabe
Station 6 -Red post just past I-5 bridge. I'll probably place a cone on top of the post. It is important to keep the incoming and out- going runners separate at this point. Keep telling them to keep the orange cones to their left. Pick up cones in your area and return them to the finish. Bryce and Dalton
Station 7- At side walk in Historical Park - I will put two cones on each side of the walk to indicate they are to run between them. The monitor should direct them to the side walk. There will be arrows on the ground. Pick up and cones and mile markers and return them to the finish. Ted and ?
Station 8 -End of side walk in Historical Park - direct runners right and tell them to keep the orange cones to their left. Help pick up cones in your area and return them to the finish. Gunnar
Station 9 - Just after the bridge in Marathon Park Direct runners onto the Power House Road. Pick up cones in your area and return them to the finish. Ryan A.
Station 10 - Power House Road and Columbia - Direct runners left onto Columbia. Also help pour water into cups before the race at Columbia and 5th. Ryan C.
Station 11 - Columbia and 5th - Direct runners left onto 5th. Also place start sign into my truck after the start and pour water into cups before the race. Josh and Aaron
Stuff:
-If you have a cell phone bring it and dial 911 if someone passes out. Don't call me or someone else - time is important.
-Bring a boom box and loudly tune it to 97.7.
- Lead bike - Russ Lehman
- Water- Noah will pick up water on Friday after we run and load my truck with finish gear.
- Girl Captains will hand out 3k awards and guys will help with 8k once they return from the course.
- Parents and girls will help with finish and with food and water at the finish. Joan Saul is in charge.
- Again if you are not listed show up at Heritage Park 7:00 a.m. and we will assign you to a job.

We plan a run afterwards - bring your running gear!

Kah Nee Ta and Lakefair Run

Camp Kah Nee Ta is July 25, 26 and 27. If you are planning on attending you need to send your application to me. If you do not have an application, e mail me at jlmiller@osd.wednet.edu and I'll e mail one back to you.

Lakefair Run July 21 - This is our biggest fundraiser. Without this there is no Stanford and the Jim Danner Meet would be questionable as well. The money from this also helps us buy uniforms.
If that's not enough to get you out to help just remember your team tee shirt is free to each person helping. Expect to pay five dollars extra above the cost for a team shirt if you don't help. The girls are in charge of the finish and the guys are in charge of the course. Everyone helps set up and take down.
Traditionally, we have run afterwards and then gone out to lunch. Okay, I added the go out for lunch part, but it would be nice.

A.M. Runs to be at 9:30

Morning runs will be at 9:30 until further notice. Monday will be a key workout through July and Monday and Thursday will be key workouts up to, but not including August 21. Today we did a 10-20-10 keeping the 20 part aerobic with a pulse between 150 and 170.

Madrone Peak Remains an Enigma

Another attempt by our runners to locate Madrone Peak failed again Saturday. Another attempt will be scheduled in the near future. The group was close this time and have at least located the correct turn off road. Stay tuned for info. on next Sats. excursion.

Kennedy Creek Run On Saturday July 7

I walked to the top of Madrone Peak this morning with Achilles the Blunder Dog and have some new directions.

Here's what to look for on Saturday: There are yellow signs with black numbers one through three. One and two are on the right side of the road attached to a tree about 10 feet up. The third sign is on the left side of the road. About betwwen 400 and 600 meters past this sign a road goes off to the left. Follow this road and it will wind around to where another road goes to the left. Take this road up until you come to a logging landing and some logging debris - then go left again - Madrone Peak is on your right. (If you come across a bulldozer - turn around you have gone too far.) You should then see a small rock quarry. Go to the end of the quarry and carefully climb up the chunks of rock. Congrats' you have now conquered Madrone Peak.

Meet 9:30 CHS Parking lot, 9:45 Steamboat grocery Store, or 10:00 Kennedy Creek.

Everyone is welcome - dogs included.

Trail Reports

Grass Lakes is passable. The entrance is a bit jungley, but passable. I cut out major obstacles today. On a wet day, you will get wet from the grass and brush.

On the Capital Trail there is a bald faced hornets nest forming on a tree next to the path. It's located just before the electrical box, about 100 meters up the hill, on the right side facing east. By up the hill I mean the lower part of the hill we run. I did get stung while working out and plan to call an exterminator.

Saturday Run to be at Kennedy Creek

Due to the fact that Adam will be gone this weekend I have decided not to run in the Capital Forest this weekend. Our Saturday run will be at Kennedy Creek and this time we will locate Madrone Peak - perhaps. If you know how to get there meet us at 10:00. We will carpool from Capital at 9:30, stop by the market on Steamboat, and then head to the entrance.

Still running at 9:00 and 5:00
