Game Tomorrow Night

We would like everyone to show up for the football game tomorrow night vs. Black Hills. The game begins at seven and our team will be introduced at half time. The team will gather on the field where we will unfurl our XC banner. Coach Miller will say a few words about the boys team and then coach Wright will say a few words about the girls team. We will then unfurl the Capital Invite banner and Coach Miller will invite the audience to either participate in the race or come down to Heritage Park and watch.

See you at practice tomorrow.

Photos Weds. 2:20 at the Capitol Building Steps

Have your parents drop you off at the Capitol Building at 2:20. Wear something with school colors, because we will not be issuing equipment yet. We will be running back to Capital High School, so be prepared. If you need items transported back to good old CHS the coaches will handle them for you.

Be prepared tomorrow to tell me your fastest and slowest 1000 for today's workout. Also tomorrow we will begin some strength training. Instead of after the workout we will do it right after we warm up.

No word yet about photos on Weds. We are shooting for the Capitol Blding at 3:00, but that is not the final word. Stay tuned.

Todays Practice

Excellent job at practice today. We still have some organizational things to do, but not too bad. I did notice during the skateboard confusion that not everyone finished their workout.

Speaking of the skateboard thing:

We have been harassed verbally by the skateboarders for years. We have even had garbage thrown at us and one time a skateboard. Today we were assaulted. Two of our athletes were tackled just for the sport of it. We had said nothing to them today or in the past to deserve this type of treatment. Being tackled during the third mile interval was particularily traumatic and we were fortunate no one was hurt.
You are not to engage the skateboarders in any negative manner. If you want to say something negative-don't. If you want to punch them out- don't. I called the police today. I don't know if it will make things better or worse. We still plan to use Yaugher as a training site, as we have for years. Please report any abuse to me right away and try to get a good description of the abuser.

Workout tomorrow at 3:00 and Saturday at 10:00.

Welcome to Millrun

I know there will be some newbies tuning into Millrun. I want to encourage you to read past entries to learn something about our program.

Today the athletes had a choice of a 25, 40, or 50 minute run based on there ability and current conditioning. I suggested that they under-estimate what they can presently run rather than over-estimate. It is easier to prevent an injury than to fix one. I encouraged most of the runners to run at Grass Lakes which is a soft surface trail type run.

If you have questions feel free to e mail me at: jlmiller@osd.wednet.edu or call 709-0572

See schedule in June's entries.

Parents Meeting Tonight at 6:30 in the Commons

Come and meet our new athletic director and possibly our new principal.

Beam Me Up Scottie

Jacob has been checking in with me from Scotland. He is running through the hills there and should be in pretty good shape. He wants you to know he visited the "Brave Heart Battle Field" and saw a castle that was featured in a Monty Python movie.

First Day of Practice

The first day of practice went smoothly. It appears the boys team will be over 50 and the girls team is over 20 already.

Today reminded me of one of the cool things about XC. It doesn't take a lot of time. We started at 3:00, took attendance, talked a bit and then did our workout. Everyone was finished before 4:30 and some as early as 4:15.

If you are wearing shoes you used during last track season or that are worn, please replace them now before you are injured.

Frosh and Sophs. if you know someone who should be turning out for XC, encourage them to sign up!

Kennedy Creek Run On Sat.

We will be running at Kennedy Creek on Sat. at 9:30. We will meet at CHS at 9:15 and then travel out to Chevron Station at Steamboat. Hopefully we will have enough people and parents willing to drive. This run is open to everyone - guys, girls, parents and pets. If you don't run, come along to walk.

I have placed a registry at the top of Madrone Peak. Ted and Gunnar have already signed it. If Ted and Gunnar are there they just might show you the loop they discovered.

There will be a $20.00 reward for the first girl signing the registry.

I'm Back!

My hard drive crashed last Thursday and I just got things up and running again.

I've had some questions about physicals.

1. Where can I get forms? To down load forms go to: http://osd.wednet.edu/for_students/athletics/athletics

2. Do I need a physical every year? Yes, according to the the main (principals) office.

Practice officially begins on August 20, at 3:00. We will be meeting at Cougar Stadium.
