Stanford and Nike Pre-Nationals

All of the results are not posted yet, but I do know the girls placed 8th at Stanford in the varsity race and 7th in the jv race. The boys paced 13, a six spots better than last year and over 100 points better. Other details to follow as information arrives. There were some really awesome performances this weekend!

Good Luck at Stanford Girls!

As I always say - To have a good time, you must have a good time, because if you don't have a good time, you won't have a good time. Go Cougar women!

Jim Danner Bus leaves at 7:00 on Saturday! Get all of your racing gear Thursday, because there will be no formal practice on Friday.

Add Hoquiam Invite Oct. 6 to Your Schedule

Coach Wright and I both agree that another quality meet will be needed to prepare us for district and state, so we have added the Hoquiam Invite. The Hoquiam Invite has varsity team races, with Frosh/Soph and JV events. We attended this invite for over ten years. We replaced it with the SK Invite, which is kaput and Danner which was on this date and has slipped back a week. Be prepared to run your fastest 5k yet. It is a very quick course with a small hill you race over twice. The weather is always great there except when it is raining or snowing. Open race for the adults!

The guys had an excellent workout today!

We Win Again!

Both the girls and guys teams won today. Our JV boys swept the first ten places which is amazing considering we held out four runners. We had the potential to take the top 14. I'm going to enter the results on Athletic.net right now. It is 7:30.

PSAT for XC Juniors

Because of some hustling around by some parents (Thanks Linda, Russ and Susan) we will be able to take the PSAT on Oct. 17 instead of Oct. 20 our league date. Here's what you need to do:

- Give your name to the coaches
-MUST register by Friday Sept. 21 in the counseling center
-MUST pay $15.00 - checks made out to Avanti
- Test will be at Avanti

PE Credits

If you do not run more than three races, I will not sign off on your PE credits. You can get PE credits, but you must remember this is a sport not a class. You will be expected to compete as part of the whole experience.

Girls Ranked 4th in Latest XC Poll - Congrats!

The Girls are ranked 4th in the latest state xc polls. Only one team in our district is ranked higher. Your hard work and performance at the Steilacoom Invite has paid off. If the girls can equal this ranking at state or do better, it will be the best showing by a Capital Girls team yet.

Meet Tomorrow at North Thurston

Bus leaves right after school - JV Boys 4:00 Girls 4:30 - V. Boys 5:00 - Parents Run 5:30 - No timing, no results and the course perhaps might be marked.

More Possible Meets

Last year we had three league meets, this year we have three league meets. Last year we had four invites and this year we have three, not counting the Frosh/Soph meet. We are missing a meet and no one in the league really wants another meet with us. If you are feeling the need for more competition here are some invites with open divisions:

Weekend of Sept. 22:

Curtis Invite (Tacoma) 5k 11:00 curtisinvitational.blogspot.com
Bellevue XC Invite 2.8 1:00 WaTFXC.com

Oct. 6:

Hoquiam 5k Time? WaTFXC.com
Ft. Worden 5k time? Cost is free!

Nov. ??
Nike Team Nationals - I believe there is an open division. More details later.

Dec 1:

Ft. Locker San Diego CA More details later.

If you are going to skip the Nike Jim Danner Meet because of Home Coming and realize you don't have too many meets remaining, I suggest you work out a way to do both that weekend. The schedule for the Jim Danner is on this blog site.

Please show up and please don't leave early

As wonderful as Saturday was I was frustrated by some things, so I am going to share them with you one at a time.

1. Show up! We had more people then usual not show up at the meet. I spoke today and some of them had good reasons, but some did not. Just let the coaches know before hand.
2. Stick around: We had athletes come with their parents and then leave right after their race. Some athletes came on the bus and then left right after their race. We have 80 athletes and as many or more parents. We are our own traveling audience and cheering squad. When you are not racing or preparing to race you should be cheering for others. You are expected to stay for the awards, even if you haven't won anything. Perhaps our team or someone on our team will be on the podium. I once had a team stay for the awards at a large invite. We had not won anything and they really wanted to leave. My reasoning for staying was that someday they would be up there getting an award and they would appreciate an audience. A few years later they won this meet and beat the top team in the state. Stay and celebrate!
3. Wear your Capital gear. In fact wear your jersey. It says Capital on the front and would look really cool in the photos.
4. Don't get on the bus until our tent area is spotless.
5. Cool down and post stretch.
6. Please do not ask to ride home with a parent other than your own without prior written permission signed by the athletic department.

We will be making an exception to some of these rules on Sept. 29th. Athletes wishing to get back early for Homecoming may leave early with their parents or with another parent as long as they have the proper note signed by the AD.

Race on Weds. is at North Thurston

A July copy of our schedule had us racing at Yelm on Weds. We will be at North Thurston on Weds.

Saturday, September 15, 2007

We Win!

The Capital girls won the Steilacoom Invite and the boys placed fifth to win the over all combined team score trophy.

The boys placed 3rd in the JV 5 inspite of some members not showing up.

The boys placed 3rd in the open JV race.

The girls placed 4th in the JV race.

One of the highlights of the meet was watching Kailyn win her flight. Another highlight was Josh getting second in his flight.

We will have more details and photos later.

Congrats' on a fine day of racing. Both the girls and the guys won big! And the JV boys! I haven't seen that much yellow since I last visited a banana plantation.

Short practice tomorrow, but imortant

Results for today's meet should be on athletic.net tonight thanks to coach Wright.

Tomorrow

Due to the confusion I did not get a chance to talk to the guys.

The course has some down hill paved areas, so wear racing flats or spikes with blanks. Your training shoes will work also.

We are the host school. Even though this meet is at St. Martins it is our meet. Be helpful. Treat your competion with respect before during and after the race. By racing as hard and intelligently as you can you are showing respect to your opponent. Teams are not always remembered by how great they raced, but by how they treat their competition. It's a package deal.

Help pick up cones etc. The more you help the sooner we get out of there.

JV 's and Varsity warm up as a group.

Restrooms are in the Pavillion.

20 -30 minute cool down

Race hard and have fun.

Nike Jim Danner Invite. Sept. 29

Location: Portland Meadows Due to the fact this will be homecoming we are providing an early schedule so that you may do both the meet and homecoming. For instance: If you are racing at 3:05 you know that you can't get back to Olympia until about 6:00. Dinner should be planned at about 8:00. Have the people you are going with plan with you and your racing in mind. I would suggest that you have someone pick you up in Portland, so you don't have to wait for our bus to leave, which will be after 5:00.

Bus leaves 2:00

JV Boys 3:45

Girls 4:15

Boys note: I am pulling Max for this meet because of his turned ankle. He will be reinserted for the Steilacoom meet. This means our person placing number seven in this meet will be the top JV at Steilacoom. So, if you are shooting for varsity at Steilacoom you will need to have the 6th fastest time on the team.

Varsity: Adam, Bryce, Noah, Nick, Josh, Nathan, Ted

Tie Dye tomorrow!

Generator Needed for Thursday's Meet

We need a generator for Thursday's meet. We are not near power. This could come in the form of a motor home with a generator. So, if you know anyone who could help, E mail me at jlmiller@osd.wednet.edu.

Thursdays meet will be at St. Martins

Thursdays meet will be at St. Martins. Stay tuned for more information.

Results for the Capital Invite can vbe found at: athletic.net or watfxc.com

Tie Dye Tuesday Will Be Wednesday

Tie Dye Tuesday will be tie dye Wednesday which means there is no tie dye Tuesday because it will be replaced with tie dye Wednesday, unless of course we decide to change the date which will make it tie dye whatever day that is.
You don't need to go out and buy a new tee shirt. If you have a light colored tee even with print on it it should work.

Thank You All for Your Help!

Parents, athletes and friends - thank you for making the Capital Invite the wonderful event that it is! We are able to pull this off because you are so willing to help. A special thanks to Kevin Wright and his wife Danelle for doing results.

Dan Saul was out of town, but we still have photos taken by my son-in-law Tim Griffin. We did not sort through the 670 photos, but there are a lot of Capital shots. I suggest you use the slide show format and gage it at one or two seconds, but first pop some corn.

Go to: capitalinvite.blogspot.com

PS Dan you are not off the hook - you are still our official photographer.

Thanks

To all of you who showed up at the game - thanks! This has been a fun and rewarding week with photos at the Capitol and an introduction at the game. I believe two great traditions have been started.
Also, both the guys and the girls had super workouts this week.
One week until the Capital Invite!
