Please show up and please don't leave early
As wonderful as Saturday was I was frustrated by some things, so I am going to share them with you one at a time.
1. Show up! We had more people then usual not show up at the meet. I spoke today and some of them had good reasons, but some did not. Just let the coaches know before hand.
2. Stick around: We had athletes come with their parents and then leave right after their race. Some athletes came on the bus and then left right after their race. We have 80 athletes and as many or more parents. We are our own traveling audience and cheering squad. When you are not racing or preparing to race you should be cheering for others. You are expected to stay for the awards, even if you haven't won anything. Perhaps our team or someone on our team will be on the podium. I once had a team stay for the awards at a large invite. We had not won anything and they really wanted to leave. My reasoning for staying was that someday they would be up there getting an award and they would appreciate an audience. A few years later they won this meet and beat the top team in the state. Stay and celebrate!
3. Wear your Capital gear. In fact wear your jersey. It says Capital on the front and would look really cool in the photos.
4. Don't get on the bus until our tent area is spotless.
5. Cool down and post stretch.
6. Please do not ask to ride home with a parent other than your own without prior written permission signed by the athletic department.
We will be making an exception to some of these rules on Sept. 29th. Athletes wishing to get back early for Homecoming may leave early with their parents or with another parent as long as they have the proper note signed by the AD.
