Trail Blocked - Work Party

Achilles and I just surveyed the trail. At first I thought there was just snow blocking the way, but on the hill there are two trees and brush down. At the top there is another block. Three blockages total.

I would like to form a work party for Friday at 1:00 weather permitting. If the weather is bad (heavy rain and wind) we will try again on Saturday at 1:00. I'll bring a chain saw. You need to bring gloves, work clothing and loppers. If you don't have loppers don't worry, I have a couple of pairs. I think we can do the whole thing in one hour if we have enough people. And yes I will sign service credit forms if you help. Park up at the water tower on the hill. It's closer to the blow downs and you won't be allowed to park at Capital due to the construction of our new open air atrium.

Another storm is due in Thursday, so there might be more clean up.

Meanwhile, winter training will originate from my house at 1016 Cardigan Loop

Winter Conditioning

It doesn't appear that the portable will be available anytime soon. A guard has been posted at the opening to the lower parking lot and is turning away people - even people just walking their dogs.

Soooo, beginning tomorrow (Weds.) at 3:00, we will be meeting at my house at 10:16 Cardigan Loop, just NW of Jefferson M.S. We have an ERG and treadmill - plus some light weights. And of course you are welcome to run. This is open to all athletes.

CHS Roof Crashes In

Capital is closed right now due to roof damage caused by snow load. At this point no staff are allowed in the building. According to my sources the library is damaged. You really can't see much from the outside, so there is no reason to rush over and take a look - especially under these weather conditions. According to my sources the coming rain could make the snow heavier and cause even more damage. I would like to workout tomorrow, but they might not even allow us into the portable, even though it is unaffected.
Chris dropped by the other day and he had put screws into an old pair of running shoes. It seemed to be working well. Workout where and when you can, but be careful. Hopefully we can open the portable on Monday.

There are great deals on watches out there.

No Winter Training Yesterday or Tomorrow

It looks as though Winter Vacation has begun for all of you. We do plan to meet in the portable over vacation weather permitting. In the meantime locate your XC skies and get out the door. I might be the only one who has skiied our XC course. The hairpin turn is a killer. Avoid places where cars can slide into you. Take a looong walk. Go sledding and run the sled up the hill. Go to The Alpine Experience and buy some Yaks and go for a run. Most of all be careful and I'll see you soon.

Also consider using some of the exercise equipment your parents bought and don't use.

Amazing

It's amazing to see you guys out running in all kinds of weather. A good way to get going is to get on the exercise equipment for about 10 or 15 minutes, then stretch, then out into the cood.

You know what else is amazing? Cable TV. This morning I was able to flip back and forth between a bio on Albert Einstein on the History Channel, and The Three Stooges Meet Snow White. In college I can remember using a contrast bath - ten minute of ice water and ten minutes of heat - moving between the two. It was a lot like that, but involved using my brain instead of muscles. Intellectually it was a great big contrast.
Albert's bio was the usual. Born at a very early age. Went to school. Figured out E equals MC squared. Then he dies. The Three Stooges featured Larry, Moe and Curly Joe. I never felt that Curly Joe was as funny as the original Curly, but was probably better than the dead Curly.
It was the regular Snow White story, but get this: Some of it was done on ice skates! It did very well in Canada I'm told. I would recommend this movie to anyone locked in a cellar with nothing else to watch. I did watch the whole thing however - just for the contrast.

See you tomorrow at winter conditioning.

Awful Weather Good Turn Out

Fridays weather was not ideal. It was raining and blowing, so I fully expected a less than stellar turn out of athletes. I was wrong. Nothing stops you folks! Be prepared for this week though, it looks like it is going to be a tough one. Don't forget hats, gloves and layers.

We didn't solve the Global Warming crisis, but it could possibly be discussed this week while we are running in sub freezing temps.

Please make sure you are paying attention to your grades. You can be in the best shape of your life, but if your're not eligible you're dead in the water.

NRA Cruises

Today at winter conditioning we decided the answer to the pirates off the coast of Africa was NRA (National Rifle Association) Cruises. We think members would be willing to pay over and above the cost of a regular cruise. Each vacationer would be allowed to to pack a weapon of choice. Training would be given on how to recognize a pirate. For instance a woman with a baby would most likely not be a pirate. A grungy looking man with a knife clenched between his teeth and a parrot on his shoulder would most likely be a pirate - or some unfortunate fellow headed to a costume party. Too bad for him. To truly test our vacationers a man dressed as a woman with a knife clenched in her/his teeth with a parrot disquised as a baby would be presented as well.
So, if pirates decided to board the ship our happy vacationers would riddle them with bullets.
But here's the good part. Two words - Reality TV. Someone is going to make big bucks.

Friday we come up with a plan for Global Warming. Perhaps something involving lack of carbon credits and the NRA.

If you see Max, Cullen, Zach P. Aaron H. remind them to turn in their uniforms to me at my house.

Colder Weather On The Way

The weather reports are calling for colder weather and possibly snow. Hope for the best and be prepared for the worst. That means layers, hats and gloves. For more info. go to one of the first entries on this blog.

See you tomorrow at winter conditioning!

Emily and Dalton - Olympian All Area Team

Emily and Dalton were selected for the Olympian's All Area Team. Their smiling faces should appear soon on the pages of our local newspaper. Congrats' toboth of them.

Meanwhile we are running every Monday Weds. and Friday after school. We have also begun a weight conditioning program. All sports are welcome.

Fail to Plan - Plan to Fail

While one person hesitates because s/he feels inferior, the other is busy making mistakes and becoming superior.

Henry C. Link - Could this be the missing link we have heard so much about?

Make a plan for the winter to run. Some plans might be more elaborate than others, but have a plan. If you need a pattern for winter conditioning check with us in the fitness portable.

Turnout for Winter Conditioning - Great!

We had 15 people attend winter condtioning yesterday. We will be meeting on Monday, Wednesday and Friday after school in the fitness portable. Coach Chris will be there on Tuesdays and Thursdays most days, but someone will be there for sure on the other days.
