Auburn Mt. View and Stuff

Get out of class: 12:45 Bus leaves at: 1:00

Take a look at Athletic.Net and then locate Prep Sports Athletic Wear. Take a look at the designs. It's kind of fun to play with. If we can find a design we agree upon we might - and I say might - just order from them for sweat shirts etc. They promise a 4 to 5 day delivery.

Remember we need a note from your parent for you to ride home with them from the meet.

Don't forget to bring snacks and water.

The bus trip there is about 90 minutes.

If you are reading this you are gifted in many ways.

Auburn Mt View address:

28900 124th St.
Auburn, WA

Word on the street is that the new discus cage will be finished tomorrow and there is talk of taking down the goal post.

Track and Field News

Meet will be at Auburn Mt. View on Thursday. Please remember that if you go home with your parents you must sign out - Mr. Coach Miller or Coach Wright.

April 25 will be a snow make up day - but we are excused for the Oregon Relays if you qualify. Some of you will go after school on Friday and some of you will miss school on Friday. It is possible some of you might travel to the meet on Saturday. We won't know until several days before exactly who qualifies.

Photos Lakes Meet

Thanks to everyone who showed up today at 10. There was a little snow in the air - imagine that.

Thank You Everyone

A big thanks to all of the parents and athletes who helped last night. Also kudos to Coach Wright who jumped in and quickly set up an alternate timing system when the new system was not working. Also we (the coaches) were very appreciative and impressed with the help from Capital athletes getting the hurdles in and out. This meet was heading for an 8:00 finishing time, but due to the actions of Coach Wright and our athletes we finished nearly on time.

Capital Wins

Capital's girls team won 101-40 and the boys team won 90 - 53 against Lakes. More information will be on the way. It is not on Athletic.Net yet.
While we are waiting here are some unofficial results I do have. These result are preliminary and we will be filling in the gaps as the info. becomes available. For instance I know we have a time for Zach.

Track Stuff

Excellent workout for the distance runners tonight. Sometimes during a workout like this people get lost or confused. Be thinking about what distance you would like to race on Thursday. Plan on a mandatory workout on Saturday at 10:00.

We need helpers on Thursday - parents, grand parents, uncles, cousins, friends etc.

Polar Bear Results are up on athletic.net

Yelm decided to e mail the results instead of sending them by snail mail - so they are on athletic.net

Found or left in stadium or bus:

Pair of light weight black gloves

White t shirt with second mouse gets the cheese printed on it.

Congrats' on a great meet. Thursday we are home vs. Lakes. We will be needing parental help, but there are some positions that students can do so bring a friend.

Polar Bear Jamboree

The organizers of the Polar Bear Jamboree have not figured out how to connect with Athletic.Net, so they will be mailing the results to us. So Logan will have to wait to get his super fast winded aided time in the hurdles. Speaking of Logan he jumped 6'3" in the HJ for a move to number five on the top 20 list.
There were some very good first meet performances in polar bear temperatures. One of the most exciting was Jared Clarkes 55 second relay leg in the 4x4 after racing the open 400. Logan was probably my pick for boys athlete of the meet, but I would also have to give up a barke for Jared Clarke.
We will get the marks onto athletic.net as soon as possible. Meanwhile, I do have a few unofficial times:
Gabe 61 - 2:11.8
Jacob 2:11.7

Steph 77 - 2:46
Kailyn 76 - 2:42

Track Stuff

There will be a parents mtg tomorrow (March 18) in Pod A at 5:30.

The meet Friday is at Yelm High School. We are trying to include everyone. If your child is a distance runner then they are entered since these events take any number of athletes. The sprints -100, 200 and 400 take three and the hurdles take three. The 800 takes three with the first heat having one person from each team and the second heat having two from each team. All field events allow four and the relays allow two, although we will try to enter three in the 4x4.

We will be skipping period six - no need to check in just get changed and go to the bus. We expect the meet to be over around 8:00.

Please bring lots of warm clothing and blankets. Think layers. The stadium is covered, but temps will most likely be in the low 40's.

Bring nutritious snacks and water.

Parents Mtg Weds. 3-18-09

There will be a parents meeting on March 18 at 5:30 in Pod A. If you are new or just want to say hello drop by. We decided that since some of you had to come by and pick up your children anyway that this might be a good time.

Throwers - Clang!

Record setting night on the goal posts. I heard it was 10 clangs! If you don't know what I'm talking about ask a thrower.

Nice Workout Distance

It is a thing of beauty when a workout comes together. All of you did a splendid job at keeping track of times and pulses. Doing this workout correctly is very important. Hey and no whining! Well at least that I heard.

Dinner for Distance Runners - Friday

There will be a dinner right after practice on Friday at the Millers 1016 Cardigan Lp. for the distance runners. No need to bring anything - all food will be provided. Please let me know if you are a vegetarian. Sprinters and throwers will be having a dinner next week.

Practice Today - Yes

Unless we have a gigantic snowfall there will be practice today at 3:00. There is no guarantee we will be able to get into the gym, so dress warmly. Practice went really well yesterday inspite of the the cold - at least it was dry. Only a few people were missing. The weather is supposed to moderate and by Friday 55 degrees and partly sunny is predicted.

Chris McIsaac Races First 10k

Former Capital great Chris McIsaac ran his first 10k on the track in 32:11. His first couple of miles were 5:04 - 03 pace and then he slowed a bit, but what an excellent performance.

Practice On Monday

We will still be having practice on Monday even if there is not school. We will be meeting in the small (new) gym.

Distance runners: Great turn out on Saturday!

Please bring a watch on Monday.

Positive Banter

It's a hot day - or it could be a cold day, but someone always has to say it. Gee it's hot or gee it's cold. Everyone in the group you are running with is painfully aware of the environment. Talking about it will not change the weather.
Don't like the workout - get over it. No one wants to hear you complain.
Have a hang nail - so sorry, keep it to yourself and then share your problem with the coach.
Having a bad day? Don't bring us down.
So much for being negative. Encourage one another during workouts.

Keep on the sunny side, always on the sunny side, forget about your worries and your woes - Fa-la -la I'm singing right now.

Turn that frown upside down! Man this is cheesy.

CCMA Waterstops

One of the schools has bombed out on this weekends waterstop. I have called several people and would welcome others to help. We get an extra $125.oo.

Biggest Loser

I discovered tonight if you watch the first show of the Biggest Loser and the last show you will hardly recognize anyone. In fact, you might think you are watching another show.

Things to remember:

Help one another

Use long runs to work on running form and also use 30 second drills to work on sprinting form.

Focus on warm up drills. We do them for four reasons: To work on speed - To warm up - To work on Form - To entertain the coaches

Always post stretch

If you are hurt check in with your coach - don't just skip practice.

First Practice

Excellent first practice. We are still waiting for the basketball players. Todays weather was a good reminder to bring layers of clothing. We quickly went from 55 degrees and sunny to 45 degrees and raining with the wind making it even colder. We will be issuing sweats, but they are light weight.

Distance runners: Make sure you run facing traffic, use sidewalks when possible and always wait for traffic signals. Remember that you are invisible to some drivers out there.

Also, I will be grouping you up more as the week goes by. This does not mean you will be stuck with a group. Your group could change as the season progresses.

First meet - 17 days.
