Kah Nee Ta

Last minute stuff:

If you don't have your form:

1. Sleeping bag and pad (air mattress) - pad is important because tee pees have concrete floors

2. Running shoes and gear

3. personal items

4. Bathing suit and sandals for the river

5. Sun Screen

6. $30.00 for miniature golf, snacks etc.

Rules:

1. When the Coach says it time for bed - it is time for bed. Usually 10:00.

2. Everyone helps out at least at one meal.

3. Treat your fellow team mates with respect. This should be a bonding time. If an individual leaves our camp feeling less connected with the team then the camp has failed.

4. Treat the staff of the resort with respect and also the attending adults. The resort keeps a list of organizations they will not permit to visit their property. We do not want to be on it.

Final note: If I'm not having a good time, and I'm doing the organizing, why would I organize another camp? So far I have only had great experiences at Kah Nee Ta.

Thank You!

Coaches Wright and Miller would like to thank all the athletes and parents who showed up today to help. There was a record turn out! This is a great fundraiser for us - no selling magazines or candy. All we sell is pure fun exercise. Other than robbing a bank, there is no faster way for us to make money.

Lakefair Run Kah Nee Ta

If you do not receive an e mail indicating what our plans are for you at the Lakefair Run your help will still be needed. Please show up at 7:00 a.m. at the finishline in Heritage Park. At that time I will assign you a position. Most positions will have two or more people. If I do not arrive right at 7:00 don't panic - I still might be out marking the course. Coach Kolln should be there until I arrive. Bring your cell phone if you own one. If someone goes down or is really struggling to the point of passing out or has passed out dial 911. Make sure you know your bearings before the race begins.

Kah Nee Ta - Keep those registrations coming in! I'll provide more info. as the week continues about what to bring - although I believe it is on the registration form.

If you have questions please e mail me at jlmiller@osd.wednet.edu

XC/Track News

They seem to be working on our track facilities.

News on the street is the fence will be moved soon to just out side of the track and we might be able to use our course with some fence opening.

Jordan Swarthout was the 2nd highest ranked scholar athlete last season in the Pac 10. He was the top ranked scholar athlete at the UW. He is now in DC on an internship for the summer and enjoying the warm weather.

Chris McIssaac had a splendid season as a steeple chaser at Linwood in Oregon. I wonder if he still calls the barriers steeples?

Former Capital Hammer greats Adam Midles and Britney Hinchcliffe threw in the Olympic trials last week. Britney made it into the finals and Adam was very close. Seven or so athletes from the Mason/Thurston Co. area qualified. This is an incredible number.

Speaking of Midles: Olivia is leading the state in the hammer throw.

Cougar Sighting

There has been a confirmed cougar sighting at Yaugher and Grass Lakes. Therefore we will be avoiding these areas until further notice. Cougars like running things - it triggers their instincts to chase down prey. I suppose it could be a house cat on steroids, but then you would have to deal with 'roid rage. Either way let's be cautious out there.

Breakfast Runners Club meets Weds 6:30 a.m. at Millers. Breakfast and Captains meeting right after.

Game on Friday at nine. I want to do sprout, but do not have any foam balls. If you have a foam ball or three bring them along. We could also play hank the cougars tail.

Kan Nee Tah and Stanford info. for Guys

If you plan to go to Stanford you need to let me know as soon as possible. I need to plan for amount of food etc. If you need info. e mail me at jlmiller@osd.wednet.edu

Stanford trip criteria: Be in the top 12 at the Capital Invite. If you have been in the program for four years, have helped with fund raisers, attended summer workouts, and have made an honest effort to improve, and want to go you are in unless you don't want to be. Due to the rise in cost of hotels, and transportation the trip will be $200.00. You are not required to go. If you don't want to go let me know. We began these trips before pay to play and I know that has been an added burden for some of you.

Apology to Bozo's Family

It has been pointed out to me that it was very insensitive for me to make light of Bozo's passing. I will now apologize to each of Bozo's living relatives. Many regrets to his wife Clarabelle. Yes, Clarabelle was a woman. She never said much just honked incessantly. And who can forget about the time she got angy at Bozo and honked to the National Inquirer. Whoa! To Bozo's half brother Ronald, sorry for your loss. Even though you were Bozo's half brother you were always there to help. He often times referred to you as his hamburger helper.
And Krusty, Bozo's first born son, I ask your forgiveness. I know it was painful at times for you to follow in the footsteps of your legendary father, but you have done alright despite the booze etc, and being featured on: Where Are They Now, six times. Suggestion: The reality show was too real.
Blooper: I'm sure you will miss your father the most. You inherited his orange hair and red nose. I know Bozo was disappointed when you chose banking over show biz, but you have risen to the top of your field and are in line for Head of the Federal Reserve.

R.I.P BOZO

Bozo the Clown passed away earlier today at 83. Well at least the man who portrayed Bozo passed away. Larry Harmon was not the first Bozo, but was largely hailed for honing the clown's trademark look by adding orange clumps of hair, the big red nose and that crazy red, white and blue costume. He trained over 200 Bozos around the country.
He asked to be buried in full costume. Five hundred years from now an archaeological team will unearth his tomb and ask the question, "What kind of Bozos were these people?"

Fourth of July UltimateFrisbee Tournament

Thirty five athletes showed up for the first annual 4th of July XC UF tournament. Due to the numbers the tournament was moved to Yaugher. The first game opened with a brillant play by Kalyn who elbowed Nathan, knocked him down and then caught a scoring pass.

All Tournament Team:

Thomas, Adam, Dalton, Kalyn and Nathan

Top Player of the Tournament Award went to Thomas. He clenched the award by jumping high into the air attempting to catch the frisbee in his teeth like a dog and ended up getting hit in the eye instead. We were able to pop his eyeball back into its socket and five minutes later he was playing again.

Big 4th of July Ultimate Frisbee Tournament

Meet at CHS at 9:00 for a short run another round of UF.

The Breakfast Running group met this morning at Millers and did a run. Weds. at 6:30 in the morning is the next breakfast run. This is for Juniors and Seniors only. I've choosen to do it this way because I want the athletes to be able to drive, so they don't wake up their parents, and I really don't think I can make pancakes for 30 or 40 people. If you are a Frosh or Soph. it will give you something to look forward to in the future.

It's time to be running. What you do, or do not do now, will directly impact your XC season.

See you tomorrow!
